Moe’s Fresh Market Official Provisioner – 2021 USVI Charter Yacht Show Set for November 7-10, 2021
St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands. Nearly two-thirds (64%) of travelers choose their next destination based on food and drink, according to 2018-researching from booking.com. It’s no wonder then that gourmet provisioning is essential to the trained chefs aboard the U.S. Virgin Islands’ fleet of boutique-style crewed charter yachts. Thus, the Virgin Islands Professional Charter Association (VIPCA) is pleased to announce that Moe’s Fresh Market is the official provisioner and caterer of the 2021 USVI Charter Yacht Show, set for November 7-10, 2021, at Yacht Haven Grande in St. Thomas.
Organizers additionally remind Crewed Yachts that August 1st is the deadline for the Show’s Early Bird Registration discount of 20% with an active VIPCA membership. Register here: www.vipca.org/usvi-charter-yacht-show/
Moe’s Fresh Markets Official Show Provisioner
“The strategic positioning of our three Moe’s Fresh Markets in the territory’s population centers and yachting hubs underscores our desire to best serve the community, and in particular the territory’s charter yacht industry and its guests, with the finest and freshest foods and ingredients,” says Willie Hamed, vice president of Demah, Inc., dba Moe’s Fresh Markets, which is a locally owned and operated chain of upscale grocery stores, with locations at Yacht Haven Grande, Red Hook and the Charlotte Amalie Waterfront.
Moe’s Fresh Markets are fully stocked with must-have charter ingredients. A wide selection of fresh fruits, vegetables and herbs are flown in twice weekly from the U.S. mainland and supplied by local and regional Caribbean farmers. Pre-cut and cut-to-order meats, poultry and seafood, dry-aged beef and live lobster are available. Grocery items boast numerous organic, vegan and vegetarian, gluten-free and international ingredients, and crusty breads, artisan loaves and pastries are freshly baked daily. Each store also has a full-service deli that serves Boars Head brand meats, imported and domestic cheeses, house-prepared salads, Moe’s StoneHouse Sub-brand sandwiches, and salad/cold and hot food bars with selections in single-serve and family-size pre-packs. Catering is available with 24-hour notice. Crews can email their provisioning lists to: firstname.lastname@example.org. Delivery can also be arranged.
New at Moe’s Fresh Markets is a selection of French wines that have each scored 90-plus points in reviews on a 100-point scale. This scoring is based on the world’s most influential wine critics and publications such as Robert Parker's Wine Advocate and Wine Spectator magazine. These new 90-plus French additions are part of the retailer’s impressive StoneHouse Cellars wine selection, the largest fine wine selection on the island, which also includes spirits sourced from around the world as well as local and specialty rums, beers, liquors, non-alcoholic beverages and waters. In the future, when pandemic precautions ease, Moe’s Fresh Markets plan to hold winemaker-hosted wine tastings in the retailer’s specially designed wine room located on the second floor of its Yacht Haven Grande location.
Moe’s Fresh Market will cater lunches and dinners, with both meat and vegetarian options, in pre-packaged compostable containers during the 2021 USVI Charter Yacht Show. Of note, almost all cardboard, as well as plastic, is recycled at Moe’s. The Red Hook location also sells Globally Clean’s Reusable Produce Bags, which help to reduce plastic waste and benefits the Humane Society of St. Thomas. The retailer is expanding its green initiative by adding EV plugs at all locations to charge electric vehicles. This service is free to shoppers.
Don’t Miss Show for Yacht Brokers & Yachts
Over 150 charter brokers from the Caribbean, U.S. and Europe are expected to attend this ‘don’t miss’ show.
“The show is important, and especially for brokers that weren’t able to attend in person last year. That’s because, with more USVI-only charters, there has been a turnaround from foreign to more US crews. The show offers a chance to meet the new crews in person as well as strengthen relationships with veteran crews,” says Germán Liubitch, sales director with Tortola, BVI-based Ritzy Charters. “The crews, especially the chefs, are essential to a charter yacht vacation. Many clients find the cuisine served on board is far beyond their quality expectations.”
Bluebeards Castle, located on Bluebeard’s Hill in Charlotte Amalie and within walking distance of the show, is offering charter brokers the discounted rate of $189 plus tax per night on king studio rooms with a queen pull-out sofa. In addition, Bolongo Bay Beach Resort will offer charter brokers a 20% discount on accommodations The discounted accommodations for both resorts are available on a first-come-first-serve basis. Brokers must call the hotels directly to make the reservation. For Bluebeards Castle, 340-774-1600; www.bluebeardscastles.com and for Bolongo Bay Beach Resort, 1-800-524-4746; https://bolongobay.com. Use the discount code: Yacht Show. For more information and to register for the show, brokers can visit: https://vipca.org/charter-broker-registration/

“Participating in the 2021 USVI Charter Yacht Show is an absolute must,” says Capt Sy Hubert, who with crew/chef Kara Hubert, embarked on chartering last year, finished the season as one of the most booked yachts and will show for the first time this fall. “It is one of the few if not only times during the season when we as the crew have the chance to meet with brokers in person to visit and reconnect. As a first-season crew, we found that our relationship with brokers was one of the most influential connections we made. They are the tip of the spear in this industry and cultivating that connection absolutely turned our maiden season from a lackluster calendar into one that not only filled our available weeks but did so with perfectly matched guests. In addition to allowing us time to connect with the brokers we are also able to highlight the aspects of our home (vessel) that will make the guests experience everything they were expecting out of their cruise through the beautiful blue waters of the Virgin Islands.”
IGY’s Yacht Haven Grande St. Thomas Marina will offer an exceptionally low show berthing rate of $1.50 per foot per day from November 1 through 17. www.igymarinas.com/marinas/marina-yacht-haven-grande/ There is an additional 10% early-bird discount for dockage paid in full before August 1. There’s also an ‘on arrival’ fuel rate that comes with a 5% discount.
New for 2021
This is VIPCA’s fifth year as host of the USVI Charter Yacht Show. As such, the evolution of the show’s dynamic four-day action-packed event schedule is something the show organizers are excited to showcase for 2021.
“The USVI’s yacht charter industry has remarkably not suffered negative repercussions of the COVID-19 pandemic this year, unlike many neighboring islands. With the seaports remaining open and the USVI continuing to welcome tourists, the territory has demonstrated its true colors and shone with yachts boasting busier charter schedules than ever before. While the anticipation is that the USVI Charter Yacht Show will revert to pre-pandemic with the hosting of events and live entertainment ashore, we will continue to include many of the COVID-19 safety protocols of the 2020 Show for the safety of all attendees. One element we are pleased to retain is the less wasteful pre-packaging of lunches and dinners catered by Moe’s Fresh Markets. This provides flexibility as to where the meals are eaten so that when masks are removed diners need not be in groups. Another element we are excited to keep is the yacht Show website with films of yacht tours and crew interviews uploaded throughout the Show. Access to the yacht Show website is free to those who attend in person or may be paid for by virtual attendees one year of access,” says Oriel Blake, Executive Director of VIPCA.
Sponsors of the USVI Charter Yacht show include the USVI Department of Tourism; Yacht Haven Grande; IGY Marinas; Offshore Marine; the Gowrie Group; Catamaran Central; Moe’s Fresh Market; Grey Goose, distributed by West Indies Company; Veuve Clicquot and Captain Morgan, distributed by Bellows International; Parts & Power Ltd., distributor of Northern Lights; the Charter Yacht Broker Association; Cardow Jewelers and Harbor Shoppers.
VIPCA is the territory’s 501(c)(6) nonprofit marine association, whose purpose is to promote, protect and further the capabilities of charter yachts and the marine businesses that sustain them. Projects and initiatives VIPCA membership supports includes producing a marine directory of local information, technical advice and resources; improving Customs and Border Protection facilities; facilitating access for charter vessels between the USVI and the Spanish Virgin Islands; compliance guidance; installation of territory-wide new transient moorings; and marine vocational training for V.I. youth under the organization’s charity fiscally sponsored by Community Foundation Virgin Islands (CFVI.net), the Marine Rebuild Fund.
