Offshore Marine Named an Official Sponsor of 2021 USVI Charter Yacht Show, Set for November 7-10, 2021 – Offers AB Inflatable/Yamaha Outboard for Silent Auction
St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands. Offshore Marine is the official supplier of Inflatables and Outboard Engines for the 2021 USVI Charter Yacht Show. The Show is set for November 7-10, at IGY’s Yacht Haven Grande St Thomas, and is organized by the Virgin Islands Professional Charter Association (VIPCA). Offshore Marine, as the AB dealer for the U.S. Virgin Islands and Yamaha distributor for the U.S. and British Virgin Islands, will supply a 12’ AB Aluminum Inflatable with a Yamaha Four-Stroke 20hp outboard for an online silent auction. The silent auction starts October 15, 2021, at vipca.org/silent-auction-for-tender-outboard/, and closes at noon on November 9th, 2021. The AB Tender/Yamaha Outboard will be displayed during the Show at the entrance to the marina docks. Offshore Marine, located in Subbase on the western side of the Charlotte Amalie Harbor, offers nearly 40 years of experience and this now family-owned business is expanding to better meet the needs of the local boating community.

“We are pleased to serve as a long-time sponsor of the USVI Charter Yacht Show, as well as other community marine events such as fishing tournaments,” says Abrie Cilliers, owner of Offshore Marine. “This is a market we know well, having sold and serviced durable and reliable name-brand outboards and inflatables such as Yamaha and AB for several years. We understand the importance of being ready for charter, the oftentimes tight turnaround between charters, and how breakdowns of such an integral piece of charter equipment such as a tender can cost a repeat charter. We pride ourselves in servicing what we sell and stand behind factory warranties for our products.”

Offshore Marine was founded in St. Thomas in 1983 as an inflatable boat and outboard repair center. Five years later, Abrie Cilliers joined the team as a service manager. Cilliers became a managing partner with founder Stan Bullard in 1992 and Cilliers wife, Sue, joined the team as office manager a year later. Most of Offshore Marine’s employees are similarly long term, collectively bringing over a century of experience to the table. All Offshore Marine technicians are factory trained and certified. Offshore Marine and their Dealer, Tradewind Yachting in Nanny Cay, have the only Yamaha Master Technicians in the Caribbean. Earlier this year, Cilliers acquired full ownership of the company with his son, Christopher, who holds dual degrees in mechanical engineering and environmental science. Thus, Offshore Marine is now truly family-owned and operated. The company is currently in
in negotiations to relocate to another water-based location, enlarge its facility and expand its operations. Offshore Marine is the Yamaha distributor for the U.S. and British Virgin Islands, and dealer for Yanmar, Volvo Penta, Caribe, AB, Boston Whaler, and Scout in the USVI.
Yacht Brokers & Yachts - Register Now!
With much of the show converted last year into virtual forums, this year with attendees being largely vaccinated, organizers are pleased to return to hosting a greater number of in-person networking events to capitalize on the opportunity for attending charter brokers to meet the crews personally.
“It's so important to meet and greet the crews; they are the heart of the charter yacht industry,” says Lauren Hodgins, owner/charter yacht broker with CYI Charters, in St. Thomas. “Attending the show allows me to learn the styles of different crews and yachts so I can better communicate with my clients.”
Speaking to the importance of a reliable tender to a charter yacht vacation, Hodgins adds, “Guests are accustomed to being able to go where they want, when they want, so a dinghy is of vital importance. It's the vehicle that lets guests enjoy onshore attractions, so it needs to be easy to board, have comfortable seating, and keep the guests dry. Nobody wants to go to shore for an elegant dinner with a wet backside.”
Bluebeards Castle, located on Bluebeard’s Hill in Charlotte Amalie and within walking distance of the show, is offering charter brokers the discounted rate of $189 plus tax per night on king studio rooms with a queen pull-out sofa. In addition, Bolongo Bay Beach Resort will offer charter brokers a 20% discount on accommodations. The discounted accommodations for both resorts are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Brokers must call the hotels directly to make their reservations. For Bluebeards Castle, 340-774-1600; www.bluebeardscastles.com and for Bolongo Bay Beach Resort, 1-800-524-4746; bolongobay.com. Use the discount code: Yacht Show. For more information and to register for the show, brokers can visit: vipca.org/charter-broker-registration/
Some 70 yachts are expected to present, including crewed sail and power catamarans, monohulls and luxury motor yachts. One of these is the 112’ Broward motor yacht, Lady Sharon Gale.

“It is important for Lady Sharon Gale to participate in this year’s yacht show for two reasons. First, to offer brokers a superyacht option for their clients. Second, to reveal the exciting new interior and numerous upgrades since 2019,” says Captain Keith Cressman.
Lady Sharon Gale is a highly customized, luxury motor yacht offeringsumptuous accommodations for eight guests, amazing indoor and outdoor spaces to relax, amenities such as a hot tub on the fly deck, and water toys including jet skis, paddle boards, a floating island and scuba diving. A full-time crew of three maintain the vessel in charter-ready condition, with a fourth crew member to provide extraordinarily attentive service during a charter.
IGY’s Yacht Haven Grande St. Thomas Marina will offer an exceptionally low show berthing rate of $1.50 per foot per day from November 1 through 17. www.igymarinas.com/marinas/marina-yacht-haven-grande/. There’s also an ‘on arrival’ fuel rate that comes with a 5% discount.
On the heels of a successful show in 2020, the USVI Charter Yacht Show will continue to have in place several COVID-19 protocols. However, for attendees who are vaccinated, there will be the opportunity of group gatherings onshore.
A reminder to Yacht Chefs that first-come, first-served registration is open now for the 2021 US Virgin Islands Charter Yacht Show Culinary Competition and Cocktail Competitions, set for November 8 and 9, respectively. Register at vipca.org/culinary-competition or vipca.org/cocktail-competition/
“Not only do the charter brokers look forward to meeting the crews, but they also look forward to reconnecting with each other in-person too, especially since in some cases it will be for the first time since the pandemic. For this reason, VIPCA is delighted that CYBA (Charter Yacht Broker’s Association) has announced that they will be holding their annual AGM (Annual General Meeting for Members) on the second night of the USVI Charter Yacht Show, November 8th at 5 p.m. The CYBA AGM will be followed by an appreciation cocktail hour for their members which will then lead into the brokers dining onboard the yachts at 7 p.m. (by prior invitation by exhibitors). Non-CYBA members will be hosted for pre-dinner drinks onboard the yachts too.” Says Oriel Blake, VIPCA Executive Director.
Sponsors of the USVI Charter Yacht show include the USVI Department of Tourism; Yacht Haven Grande; IGY Marinas; Offshore Marine; the Gowrie Group; Catamaran Central; Moe’s Fresh Market; Grey Goose, distributed by West Indies Company; Veuve Clicquot and Captain Morgan, distributed by Bellows International; Parts & Power Ltd., distributor of Northern Lights; the Charter Yacht Broker Association; Cardow Jewelers and Harbor Shoppers.
VIPCA is the territory’s 501(c)(6) nonprofit marine association, whose purpose is to promote, protect and further the capabilities of charter yachts and the marine businesses that sustain them. Projects and initiatives VIPCA membership supports includes producing a marine directory of local information, technical advice and resources; improving Customs and Border Protection facilities; facilitating access for charter vessels between the USVI and the Spanish Virgin Islands; compliance guidance; installation of territory-wide new transient moorings; and marine vocational training for V.I. youth under the organization’s charity fiscally sponsored by Community Foundation Virgin Islands (CFVI.net), the Marine Rebuild Fund.
